Smartec B.V. was founded in 1987 and originated from a laboratory concept at Delft University of Technology (TUD, the Netherlands). A temperature sensor with digital output not requiring calibration was developed there. This has proven to be more accurate and reliable than any other digital temperature sensor on the market. The sensor has been sold over 15 million times worldwide.
Through research and development initiatives, Smartec has steadily expanded its product range. Its product range was further expanded with the launch of the humidity sensor and the infrared sensor.
The company introduced the Universal Transducer Interface (UTI) and a complete range of pressure sensors in the 0.01 to 300 PSI range. After 18 years of intensive research by TUD scientific staff, an improved version of Smartecs' digital temperature sensor, the SMT172, was launched in 2015. The SMT172 has proven to be the most accurate sensor in the world and is sold extensively worldwide. Over the years, Smartec has built strategic alliances with world-class semiconductor companies in Europe and the Far East. These alliances have led to long-term partnerships characterised by close collaboration in research and development, not only with Smartec but also with technical universities throughout Europe. Smartec continuously expands its global distribution network and has sales representatives in over 20 countries.
